About

Friends of Way Park is a group of neighbors in Northfield, Minnesota, working together on issues related to the restoration and care of this historic parkland.

Our Mission
The mission of Friends of Way Park is to honor the Way family gift of 1933 by preserving this community parkland for present and future generations.

Our Purpose

  • To support, advise, and cooperate with the City of Northfield in the planning, development, programming, beautification, and maintenance of Way Park
  • To encourage the use of Way Park by the entire Northfield community
  • To memorialize the 1939 Northfield hospital that previously occupied the south park of the park
  • To encourage and receive gifts and bequests in support of the purposes previously noted

Friends of Way Park has been formally organized since 2005.  We have encouraged the closure of First Street through the park, and organized and supported park events. We are applying for grants and raising money to help realize the master plan designed by architect Spencer Jones.  Friends of Way Park is working with the Park Board and City Council to take the next step in developing the new section of the park: grading it for an amphitheater and sliding hill, and replacing the rocky land-fill soil with topsoil that will support grass.

Current Friends of Way Park board members are Doug Bratland, Sarah Carlsen, Judy Covey, Cahrene Dimick, Chris Ennis, Robert (Bob) Hickcox, Jim Holden, Chris Kauffeld, Matt Rohn, Mary Steen, and Judy Swanson.
